SACRAMENTO, CA (March 15, 2013) – The California Department of Corporations encourages Californians to observe Women’s History Month in March and, to recognize the occasion, is reissuing an educational brochure promoting women’s financial health, and posting it to the Department website.

“Women’s History Month is a chance for all of us to note and celebrate the contributions women have made to the history of the United States and world,” said Jan Lynn Owen, Commissioner of the Department of Corporations. “The Department is pleased to observe Women’s History Month with the ‘Financial Tips for Women’ brochure.”

“Financial Tips for Women” is available online at http://www.corp.ca.gov/Consumer/Publications.asp. Printed copies of the brochure may also be obtained by contacting Forms@corp.ca.gov.

Women’s History Month is a national event, declared by the U.S. Congress. More information may be found at http://womenshistorymonth.gov/ or at the National Women’s History Project website at http://www.nwhp.org/.

The Financial Tips for Women brochure was jointly developed by the Department of Corporations, the Department of Financial Institutions and the California Commission on the Status of Women. The content was last updated in July 2011.

It should be noted that Jan Lynn Owen is only the third female Commissioner of Corporations in the past 50 years. Appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2011, she joins Christine W. Bender (1987 – 1991) and Geraldine D. Green (1980 – 1983) in the ranks of Commissioner of Corporations.

California consumers should contact the Department of Corporations to check on the status of the companies, investments or other services they are considering and the licensing status of individuals at the Department’s toll-free Consumer Services Office at 1-866-ASK-CORP or at www.corp.ca.gov.
