Re: ________ — Extraordinary situation closing

Dear Ms. ________:

This is in reference to your letter of July 26, 1993, reflecting a determination by bank officers that an “extraordinary situation” exists at your Branch, and requesting permission to close that office for an extended period of time beginning August 4, 1993. The business of that branch will be transferred to the ________ Main Office.

A previous application to close the Office was filed pursuant to Financial Code Section 510, and was approved on July 22, 1993. The proposed date of closing had initially been set for October 1, 1993. However, the branch has been the site of repeated “takeover” style robberies during which both customers and staff have been terrorized, and a staff member has been injured. The most recent such attack was on July 23, 1993.

Therefore, in the interests of preventing further injury to customers or staff, we hereby approve your request for an extended closing of the office pursuant to Financial Code Section 3603.

Please comply with Section 10.7778 of the Regulations of the Superintendent of Banks when the branch closes.

Sincerely,

John R. Paulus
Chief Bank Examiner
